Law of obligations

On contract law

Contract law is at the heart of many legal disputes and agreements in everyday life. It governs rights and obligations arising from contracts and from the law. Disputes within contract law can have major financial and practical consequences. Our lawyers have extensive experience in advising and litigating in this area of law and assist both individuals and entrepreneurs.

Consumer sales

Consumer purchases involve agreements between a consumer and a professional seller. Disputes regularly arise over defective products, non-conformity, warranties or the question whether a product complies with what was agreed. We advise consumers and sellers on their rights and obligations. Among other things, we assess whether repair, replacement, price reduction or dissolution of the agreement is possible.

Contractual obligations

Agreements form the basis of many legal relationships. When one of the parties fails to fulfil its contractual obligations, this can lead to uncertainty and damages. We support clients in explaining contracts, a breach of contract and determining the appropriate follow-up steps. We advise you on the options for claiming performance of an agreement, but also on alternatives when continuation of the agreement is no longer desirable or feasible.
If there is a default, it may be possible to dissolve the contract under circumstances. Dissolution of the contract may be an appropriate solution when performance is not or no longer possible or desirable. We guide you through this process carefully and legally.

Liability and compensation

When a contractual obligation is breached or a wrongful act is committed, liability may arise. In that case, damages can be claimed. Claiming damages usually requires default. Default usually arises through a notice of default. We advise you which steps are necessary.

Each case requires a tailor-made solution. Sometimes an amicable settlement is most effective, while in other cases legal proceedings are unavoidable. We think strategically with you and advise you which route is most appropriate and promising in your situation. Clear communication, realistic expectations and looking after your interests are key.
